A-Z Home Decor Trend 2014: Brass

Welcome Back to the A-Z Home Decor Trend Guide 2014.

For the next 13 weeks, I will be revealing 26 of the hottest home decor trends currently heating up the market, design blogs, and the internet.home decor trends 2014 with Alice T Chan brass lighting optionsToday's home decor trend starts with the letter B for Brass!Like it or not, it's baaack and it's back with a vengeance!  It may seem hard to believe since for years we've been trying to remove the brass detailing from homes that was so popular in the 70s and 80s.  It feels like just yesterday (when in reality it's been almost 10 years), I was helping a client update their 80s home that had brass detailing throughout - closet door frames, bath shower enclosures, faucets and bath and shower fixtures, lighting, it was the finish of that era.  Due to the expense of a complete gut bath renovation, we opted to change out the faucets to brass and chrome versions to downplay the brass.  Well, those days are over... so if your home is rocking some brass detail, you're in luck.  What was old is new again as you'll see in the inspiration photos below.  Maybe it'll inspire you to use or embrace brass in a more modern way in your own home.I'll admit, I had my doubts initially, but it's growing on me.  Gold and brass are much warmer metals than Chrome, Stainless Steel and Brushed nickel.  I've seen some really beautiful polished brass and gold hardware recently that has really piqued my interest.  How about you?

What do you think of this trend?  It has a very luxe look and feel that the silver metals don't have.  That is why the Trump brand (the epitome of luxe living) and many high end luxury establishments choose to incorporate brass detailing in their decor.  Would you incorporate brass into your home design?

I invite you to follow my A-Z Home Decor Trends 2014 Pinterest Board where I'll be pinning inspiration pics of all the trends throughout the next 13 weeks...see you online!
