A-Z Home Decor Trend 2014: Farmhouse Sink

A-Z Home Decor Trends F is for farmhouse sinkWelcome Back to the A-Z Home Decor Trend Guide 2014.I'm revealing more of the hottest home decor trends currently heating up the market, design blogs, and the internet.Today's home decor trend starts with the letter F for...Farmhouse Sink! Some of you might be questioning the appeal of these sinks and I must say, it surprised me too, but it's a very popular kitchen trend.  In fact, besides white kitchen cabinets, they were the second most requested item from homeowners when I was filming HGTV's Power Broker.  And the crazy thing is, they are not cheap...I dare say, they're expensive!  Depending on the material it's fabricated from, it runs on average about $500-$2000.  The least expensive options I've been able to find is from IKEA which run in the $200-3o0 range.  They have a 25" single bowl or a 36" double bowl option.  We used both in two different makeovers on HGTV's Power Broker.IKEA Single Bowl Farmhouse SinkHGTV Power Broker Episode 102 KitchenIt has a vintage quality that people are gravitating towards. I will warn you that contractor's are not a fan of these sinks because it makes installation very challenging.  Most kitchen cabinets are not made to accommodate them (note the exposed apron front) so there are modifications that need to be made unless the cabinets are custom made specifically for a farmhouse sink. They are fabricated from different materials.  The most common is porcelain like the IKEA options above and the example below.porcelain farmhouse sinkHere's one that's made from Fireclay.fireclay farmhouse sink

Stainless steel is a more modern option.

and even natural stone, like granite...
