Effective Home Staging Tip Series #7: Master the Inner Game of Home Selling!

Now that you've assessed, decluttered, packed, cleaned, repaired, upgraded, and staged your property to sell, you're done right?  Not so fast...today you will learn how to master the inner game of home selling so you don't sabotage all your hard work and efforts.I’m going to be very straightforward with you. The staged home lifestyle is going to be VERY different than your regular lifestyle. For some, more so than others. Yes, you will have to make sure that all the dishes are put away, the toys are stored neatly, shoes are stashed away in the garage, the toilet lids are covered, the hair is vacuumed from the bathroom, no toothpaste in the sink and the beds are made every day. If you’re not used to this much detail normally, it’s going to be an adjustment. I’ve actually had home sellers who moved out during the time the house is on the market or even some who chose to sleep on the floor because they didn’t want to have to make the bed every day.The good thing is you’ll be learning some really good habits and hopefully your house will be sold quickly and then you can relax. On the flip side, you will have to make the extra effort and manage your household to be in compliance with you. You can’t get lazy because when your house is on the market, you will always have to be “on”. I remember the last time I sold my house, even though I’m pretty compulsive in general, having to make sure that hair was vacuumed up before we left the house, rolling up the bathmat and tucking it under the sink and making sure all the little details were taken care of was a little stressful. Thank goodness we didn’t have a child to worry about back then.I sympathize with all of you. Believe me, I’ve been there, done that (3 times, personally!). Just remember, it’ll be worth it when the house sells. As soon as you are in contract, you can relax a little, but until you’ve got the money in your hot little hands, I wouldn’t get too comfortable. You can take comfort in knowing that staged homes tend to sell faster than non-staged homes, so if everything is in alignment, you won’t have to do this for very long.In my self-guided program, "The Do-It-Yourself Home Buyer Attraction System," you will get several checklists to help keep you on track.Stay tuned for #8 and the Finale to our Effective Home Staging Tip Series.
