Welcome back to Week 6 of our One Room Challenge™ Tropical Powder Room Makeover...THE REVEAL!

This is the moment you've all been waiting for! Hundreds of spaces around the country are being unveiled today...oh what fun.  If this were TV, there would be uncontrollable O-M-Gs, tears, possibly even an ugly cry - LOL! Obviously, this is way less dramatic since we're all virtual and we did it for ourselves and of course all the followers of this amazing challenge (thanks again to Linda of Calling it Home for hosting this event and media partner House Beautiful). WEEK 1 / WEEK 2 / WEEK 3 / WEEK 4 & 5

Remember when I scoffed at the thought of taking 6 weeks to makeover one space?  In reality it doesn't and shouldn't take that long, but because this is a personal project and not a client project, it was nice to have the time to schedule in work to be done without a lot of stress and a deadline helps to keep me on track. I had to combine weeks 4 and 5 because I chaperoned my daughter's 6th grade Outdoor Ed/Science Camp field trip for a few days and not only did we NOT have internet access, but our schedules were so full that there was no time for blogging!In any case, I am thrilled with the results.  This was a small project but it still involved sourcing for materials, placing orders, hoping orders arrived on time and without errors or damage.  Overall, this was a very low stress project and can easily be completed in a few days if you were doing it yourself or even if you were hiring out some of the work. Ok, here we go!

Starting with a view from the entry...I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the wallpaper. It's a happy print with beautiful vibrant colors and it just conjures up all the tropical feels that bring you joy! Oh, and the photo canvas of Alexa and her BFF, Taliyah turned out so good. I took that picture with my iPhone! Nothing better than natural light. I've had this beach frame forever and recently came across it while clearing out the garage. Seemed appropriate to use it here. I added a picture of Alexa surfing in Maui last year. This project gave me the opportunity to finally print the photo canvases that has been on my TO DO list. The picture above the toilet is from Ho'ike 2016 (aka Hula Recital) and the other two are from a Tahitian Dance competition last summer.  All the colors work so well together! And as you can see, I chose to highlight the turquoise and orange colors from the wallpaper in the hand towel, rug, and accessories. I tend to keep the accessories to a minimum. There's no need to overdo it. This is still a space we use and I hate having to move stuff around when I'm cleaning. By the way, the Blue Hawaii candle smells really good!

Project Budget

This project cost a little over $2200 to complete.  The most expensive material and the star of the space is the wallpaper.  I think you'll agree it wouldn't be the same without it.  If you were to recreate this in your own space, the numbers may vary a little bit depending on whether you're DIYing the work or if you're hiring out and how much labor costs in your area.  I also re-purposed the vanity and the light and kept the existing toilet which kept the costs down. If you had to replace those items, you'd probably add about $1500 to the budget. I also forgot to include in the table the plumbing and electrical supplies which were about $100. Overall, this project was relatively inexpensive with high impact results.
